Type species: Metabactrites formosus Bogoslovskii, 1972 [OD].

Klug, 2001, p.486: Moderate to moderately large, very loosely coiled gyroconical conch with a very gentle curvature. Very wide umbilicus. Low whorl expansion rate (ca. 1.3) and high whorl interspace rate of about 2 to 2.6. Sculpture with rursiradiate riblets and thin, parallel growth lines. Suture line with a small external lobe, a widely rounded lateral lobe, and a shallow internal saddle. Septa strongly dorsoventrally bent.

Comparisons (Klug, 2001, p.486): Among the Anetoceratinae RUZHENCEV 1957, Metabactrites is perhaps the genus with the lowest whorl expansion rate (1.3). Only Kokenia HOLZAPFEL 1895 might have comparable measurements in this parameter (further information about Kokenia under Remarks). Additionally, Metabactrites has the largest number of ribs per whorl (up to 130) and all other genera of this family have lower whorl interspace rates (< 1.8).

A:   Conch gyroconic.
C:   appr. 130 ribs/whorl.
