Type species: Paragattendorfia humilis Schindewolf, 1924, p.105 [OD].

Paragattendorfia SCHINDEWOLF, 1924, p.229 [*P. humilis, p.105; OD]. [=Globimitoceras KORN, 1993, p.585, type Imitoceras globiforme VĂ–HRINGER, 1960; OD (subj.)].

A: Conch form lenticular to thick-discoidal, involute, on all stages with narrow, but open umbilicus. Increase of whorl height during ontogeny slow, with low aperture height on all stages; width of umbilicus increases during ontogeny in most species.
B: Growth lines usually fine, rectilinear, crossing venter with or without hyponomic sinus.
D: Constrictions absent in most species.
G: Ventral lobe small, V-shaped, rarely parallel-sided.

[For discussion see BARTZSCH & WEYER, 1987, p.64.- Globimitoceras has been erected for species with narrow umbilicus which opens only slightly during ontogeny].
