Type species. Antegoniatites anticiparis Korn, Bockwinkel & Ebbighausen, 2010.

Diagnosis. Conch small, reaching 30 mm in diameter. Juvenile whorls evolute, closure of the umbilicus already at the juvenile stage. Moderately narrow V-shaped external lobe and moderately high median saddle (0.55-0.60). Ventrolateral saddle acute, almost symmetrical, with nearly straight flanks. The shape of the ventral lobe is very similar to that of Neogoniatites, but Antegoniatites has a relatively long widely umbilicate stage, while in Neogoniatites it is very short.
